Would You Say “I Do” to Separate “His & Hers” Wedding Registries?

Posted by Leena Kollar on 25th May 2016

When a couple gets married, they become one. They merge their lives, their families and their bank accounts. But it's also important that each person maintains their individual identity and has time to spend with their own friends and on their own hobbies. Sometimes each person brings to the marriage a collection of household goods that, when meshed with their partner's, completes the perfect "starter package." This makes creating a wedding registry a bit of challenge, because what does the couple who already has everything register for? This is where the idea of having two separate wedding registries- one for the bride, and one for the groom- comes in- It does seem somewhat contradictory to the purpose of marriage to separate your registries, but at the same time, this is a great way to help each spouse-to-be keep a part of themselves alive so they can enjoy who they are as an individual. And if you already have most of the basics for your home, why not ask your friends & family for things that will enhance your life in other ways?

For the bride, a registry could include beauty items, gift certificates to a spa, clothing, or home decor. The groom could register for camping gear, electronics or personal grooming products. Each person could compile a list of items they'd find useful for their honeymoon, or for a weekend getaway. Guests could choose to purchase a gift for both the bride and groom, or just one of them, depending on their relationship to the couple.

What do you think? Do you like the idea of "his & hers" wedding registries? Or are you more traditional and favor a combined registry?
