Making a List, Checking it Twice

Posted by Leena Kollar on 23rd Apr 2014

That guy Santa Claus, he's one smart man. Before he travels the world dropping off presents (or coal) to children, he double checks his "naughty or nice" list. Even Santa Claus can make mistakes. So when it comes to planning your wedding, it is a good idea to follow in Old St. Nick's footsteps (or is it bootsteps?). One of the first things we do once we get engaged is start compiling our wedding guest list. (If you're like me, you already had most of the wedding planned long before you even met your future spouse.) In most cases, the list starts out quite long and slowly gets shorter as the budget gets more real. We want to invite every single person we know, and then some. "Well, I know she is just my hairdresser, but she knows all my secrets!" It is great to want to share your marriage with people. But when it comes to your guest list, make sure you do at least one thorough look over before finalizing whom you are going to invite.

It can be hard to remove people from your guest list, especially if several people within one circle are being divided up and only some of them invited. However, at the end of the day, it is your wedding and you have to stay within your budget. It is highly unlikely that every person you invite will actually attend, but in the event that they do, make sure you narrow down your list to the V.I.P. (very important people) and don't feel guilty about leaving off the others. And hey, Santa Claus only gets milk and cookies- you get to spend the rest of your life with the person of your dreams!
