Helping Make Princess Mikayla’s Wish Come True

Posted by Grace on 1st Jan 2014

From time to time, we receive requests from the community to participate in special causes. We are always happy to give back, and we would like to share this very special story with you. Back in March, we received an email from the Chi Omega house of the University of Alabama.  This group of college women is very much involved in philanthropy. One of the organizations that they sponsor is the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the charity that grants the wishes of children battling terminal illnesses.  One of those children is three-year-old Mikayla. Mikayla has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a childhood cancer in which the bone marrow makes too many immature lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell).  Mikayla loves princesses, and her wish was to go to Disney World. Chi Omega was going to help grant Mikayla's wish. As part of sending Mikayla to Disney World, the Chi Omega house wanted to host a "Wish Granting Party." It was going to be a princess ball, and Mikayla was going to wear her dream dress to the ball. This is where we came in. Chi Omega asked us if we would donate the dress. Of course we said yes! A perfect dress was picked out. It was pink, princess-y, and just a dream of a dress. We were honored to be able to give this dress to Mikayla and be a part of making her wish come true. So on April 9, Mikayla got to be a princess for the day! She got to go to a local hair and nails spa and receive the royal treatment. Then, to complete her princess look, Mikayla got dressed up in our Pink Cinderella Dress, picked up by a limo and whisked away to the Chi Omega house for the princess ball. Princess Mikayla arrived at the party by a grand entrance on a red carpet with Big Al (mascot of the University of Alabama Crimson Tide) as her escort. The party was filled with food, fun, and friends!   Mikayla, we think you are an absolutely beautiful princess.  We are honored that we got to be a part of your special wish. We are rooting for you and keeping you in our prayers!
