A Family Legacy

Posted by Leena Kollar on 25th Jun 2014

I just spent the last several days at the lake with my entire extended family for a reunion. We were celebrating my grandparents' 60th wedding anniversary. I hadn't seen some of my family members since my wedding 4 years ago. Some, even longer. So getting to spend time and make memories with my loved ones was really special. I saw my little guy bond with some of the cousins he had never met. I caught up on the lives of my own cousins. I looked around and saw the amazing legacy that my grandparents have created over the last 6o years. It was all so beautiful and sacred. As a parent now myself, I can't help but wonder how my husband and I will look in 60 years. I wonder if my son will be as in awe of his mommy and daddy as I am of my own parents and grandparents. I wonder if he will stay in touch with his cousins. I wonder how many children of my own I will have, to carry on my own legacy.

Spending time with family definitely gets you thinking about the future. It gets you thinking about how you are as a parent. I look around and see all of my relatives, grown up and starting families of their own. I remember when we were all kids, playing dress up with grandma's old clothes. As I continue down this road called motherhood, I will continue to think about the way I live my life and how I present myself to my children.
What legacy do you hope to leave behind?
